The Town of Seneca may have been "written off" by many as time has taken its toll on the timber industry, but those who did so were mistaken. The town's spirit has continued to shine through over the years. This is most evident in the variety of enterprising projects that have been completed over the past few years and those that are ongoing today. This page is intended to provide you with a quick look at some of those projects. The Seneca Shooting RangeFor those of you who lived in Seneca through the 60's, we're sure you remember the "old garbage dump" out past the manager's house along Shirttail Creek. The town initiated a rehabilitation project of that site, converting it into a shooting range which is now heavily used by organizations, groups, and individuals from around the region. Click here to see how it looks today.A Golf Course in Seneca? As most of you know, the old Seneca Planer Mill shut down years ago. Sadly, the only thing remaining is the old sawdust burner and a couple of the old storage sheds. The folks didn't let the moss grow under their feet once the mill had closed its doors, though. They came up with a plan that would redevelop the area that stretches from the old baseball diamond North to the old railroad track bed, west-northwestwards across the Silvies River to the Northwest corner of the old horse pasture, southwards to where the old steampipe bridge use to cross the river and generally back towards the baseball diamond. Of all things, they built a nine-hole golf course and it's called the Bear Valley Meadows Golf Course. There is always someone out there these days, rain, shine, mud, or cold (what else in Seneca) and nowadays it's not uncommon to see locals tooling around town in their golf carts, golf clubs ever at the ready. The new tank sits prominently on the side of what we all recall as "the cross" hill.Industrial Park ProjectDo you remember the old log landing along the railroad track at the north side of town? Well, Seneca is fortunate to now own that 26-acre piece of property and is developing its own Industrial Park. Water and sewer service now been extended to the entire site. The city is now soliciting businesses to consider setting up shop out there. If you have any ideas or contacts, please contact the Seneca City Council.Seneca Forest ProjectSeneca is fortunate to possess 20+ acres of timber land and have just completed a stocking/Ladder Fuels Reduction Project to not only maintain the forest health but also to reduce the fire danger to Seneca.Back to Top |
